Social Wellbeing

Social Wellbeing

An emphasis on social wellbeing seeks to build and maintain healthy relationships with those around us by freely offering love and care, plus a sense of belonging and mutual appreciation. This involves open communication, setting boundaries and showing respect, regardless of age, caste, ethnic group or religious differences.

Relief and Development

Jesus commanded us to love the underprivileged, the needy, the dispossessed, the abused, the broken, and those suffering from extreme poverty. Therefore, OMF teams search for those who live in unreached or disaster-affected areas and bring them assistance, mainly in the form of community development projects, hygiene kits, clothing, food packs and shelter. We also provide grieving people with a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on, while proclaiming the hope that is available through the Gospel. In this way, the lives of poor and destitute people will be transformed from poverty to physical and spiritual prosperity

Response in Devastating Floods in Pakistan

Sindh, Baluchistan and South Punjab are facing severe flooding because of heavy rains, and thousands of people have lost their houses, leaving them without food and shelter, while increasing their risk of starvation and disease. Our teams in these areas are actively engaged in supplying food packs, hygiene kits, shelter and winter kits to support suffering families. These teams will also be constructing houses for those who are badly affected and have no means to rebuild on their own.

Awareness Program
OMF conducts awareness seminars on social and health-related issues such as:

• Maintaining Health and Hygiene
• HIV-AIDs & Hepatitis Awareness
• Workplace Safety
• Child Protection and Wellbeing
• Birth Life Saving Skills (BLISS)
• Women’s Life-Cycle
• Good Practices
• Kitchens, Gardens, and Food Sources

These programs are meant to produce sustainable development and healthy communities.
Poverty Alleviation
According to World Bank, there are 3 billion people worldwide who live below the poverty line, and many of them are situated in Pakistan, where 80% of the population resides in rural or semi-urban areas. Even those who migrate to cities for work are unable to sustain their families until they get employment. Therefore, OMF travels to impoverished communities and provides basic education in the following life-skills:

• Animals for Welfare and Self-Use
• Kitchen, Garden, Farming and Bartering
• Livestock Loans and Sponsorship
• Transformational Community Development
• Self-Help Groups

This education aims to provide a steady source of earning for poor people, who will be able to use their newfound knowledge and skills to earn a meaningful profit. Physical aid is also provided in the form of seeds, livestock, farming tools, and clean water, in order that families would become sustainable in their daily lives.
Scholarship

Scholarships are offered to deserving students to support their education. Additionally, scholastic competitions with cash prizes are hosted for children from underprivileged backgrounds in order to offset school fees.

Medical camp

In collaboration with various partners, OMF organizes medical camps for rural communities, where specialists in dentistry, OB-GYN, pediatrics and optometry offer free medical consultations and treatment.
